A Fascinating History
The Wig and Mitre in Lincoln, two historic pubs that, in 2014, happily merged into one charming establishment. The Wig, dating back to the 17th century, was once a favorite haunt of local tradesmen and soldiers, perhaps even visited by ancestors of Captain James Cook. Its timber-framed interior has seen Victorian soirées and wartime camaraderie, a true testament to Lincoln’s lively history.
The Mitre, older still, likely served pilgrims heading to Lincoln Cathedral, attracting figures like Samuel Taylor Coleridge and Mayor William Johnson. For centuries, these two treasured pubs stood side by side, sharing stories and warmth. Their union in 2014 preserved their rich heritage, allowing visitors today to step into Lincoln’s past and raise a glass in celebration of history, community, and timeless hospitality.
